Berkovitsa

A small town at the foot of Kom peak, about 80 km from Sofia over the Petrohan pass. Rugby has been played here since 1974.

Berkovitsa lies in the Berkovitsa basin, on the edge of the north-western Balkan Mountains. At the end of 2025 it had just under 10,000 residents.

The town's emblem is the Clock Tower, built from 1762 to 1764. The clock was made in Bucharest and is still wound every 24 hours. Ivan Vazov lived here from March 1879 to September 1880 as chair of the district court, and his house has been a museum since 1957. The town celebrates on 8 September, and the tournament in memory of Trenera has long been part of that festival.

Kom

Kom, 2,016 m, is the start of the Kom–Emine trail, which runs 650 km along the crest of the Balkan Mountains. Sixteen kilometres from town on a paved road is the Kom recreation area, with three huts and a ski run of about 800 m. The lift runs at weekends. From the huts, the summit is about 2 hours on foot.

Getting here

The road from Sofia crosses the Petrohan pass, at about 1,400 m. A bus leaves Sofia Central Bus Station at 13:00 and reaches Berkovitsa at 15:10. Because of the repairs, this autumn's matches are in Sofia, so check the fixtures before you travel.

Where to stay: Komhotel is a club partner, and the municipality keeps a list of places to stay.
